Driving from Christchurch to Hokitika via Arthur's Pass - 3.5 hours
Travelling from Christchurch to Hokitika via Highway 73 runs through Arthur's Pass National Park. It is incredibly scenic and only takes 3 1/2 hours.
Stop at the many lakes along the way for great views and a stretch
Visit the otherworldy rock formations at Castle Hill
Stop for refreshment in Arthur's Pass Village or the unique Otira Hotel - the village has basic services including gas, food, lodging and essential items. The Otira Hotel offers accommodation and food.
Flying to Hokitika with Air New Zealand
There are daily flights from Christchurch to Hokitika with Air New Zealand. The view from the plane over the Southern Alps can be magnificent!
The Tranz Alpine Rail Journey
This Great Journey of New Zealand starts in Christchurch has been rated one of the top 10 train journeys in the world. The trip finishes in Greymouth where you can continue to Hokitika via public transport or rental car.
