SUMMARY:Hokitika Wildfoods Festival 2024
DESCRIPTION:Hokitika Wildfoods Festival – Saturday 9th March 2024 \nHokitika’s annual Wildfoods Festival is a celebration of the West Coast’s unique wild food and lifestyle\, accompanied by premier entertainment. Visitors can sample a wide array of local natural foods\, ranging from some of the weirdest and most exotic delicacies to fabulous gourmet specialties. What’s traditionally found in the heart of the bush and deep in the ocean is served up with a fork for the daring. Apart from hunting the mountains for pigs\, deer\, thar and chamois and fishing the sea\, keen stallholders have not left many stones unturned in their efforts to explore edible possibilities. Even garden weeds have been discovered as herbs useful in festival salads and beverages. \nThe festival first came into fruition in 1990 when Hokitika local\, Claire Bryant\, instigated the very first celebration of local wild foods. Her wine cellar was very well stocked with a home brew of West Coast gorse flower wine and people were clamouring for a taste of her rose petal brew. The first event also coincided with the 125th anniversary celebration of the birth of Hokitika in March 1990. Locals and the rest of New Zealand were captured by the magic of the idea – a celebration of Hokitika and the wild foods of the West Coast. \nOffering tunes for all tastes\, entertainment is comprised of a top line-up of New Zealand musicians playing the main stage. \nThose with a creative flair can enter Feral Fashion – a wearable arts style competition modelled on the racing circuits Fashion in the Field. Contestants get creative\, forage in their surroundings\, and create a wild alter ego to wear to the festival. \nIf children are not interested in sampling huhu grubs\, the Kids Corner will keep them occupied with face painting\, a massive inflatable pirate ship\, a candy shop and more. \nPerforming in 2024 \nJon Toogood \nHarmonic Resonators \nTickets on sale NOW

SUMMARY:Drum\, Dance & Date Night at Greenstone Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Drums\, tribal beats\, kundalini energy rising and free form movement to find your internal rhythm with Kate. \nEvery day is a time to celebrate LOVE. Self love\, Earth love\, community love\, love of family\, friends or a significant partner. Let us get together to increase the love within and send it out to all those who need it through drums\, dance and the connection of being in a circle which amplifies it. \nNo partner needed\, however bringing a drum or 2 would be useful.\nThis evening will be a choice of dancing and/or drumming to an awesome music set which opens our hearts and allows joy and play to flow. With tribal beats and wild elements we can lift our energy and feel into the bliss of high vibrational music. \nDid you know that research studies have shown a huge variety of health benefits from drumming.\n* Grounds you when feeling agitated.\n* Improves mood through releasing endorphins.\n* Reduces stress and anxiety.\n* Boosts immune system.\n* Improves mental clarity and cognitive function.\n* Improves coordination and motor skills.\n* Sound vibration improves blood circulation and lowers blood pressure.\n* Reduces pain through increased tolerance and increased endorphins\n* Boosts social connection and creates deeper relationships. \nDancing is more than a great way to improve your cardiovascular fitness. It also:\n* Improves coordination\, strength\, body awareness and balance.\n* Improves flexibility and range of movement thereby reducing the likelihood of injury.\n* Improves mood\, happiness and resilience.\n* Enhances cognitive function and concentration.\n* Raises feelings of being more alive\, energized\, resourceful and free. \nEvidence is growing that as humans synchronize to a beat\, our brains release cocktails of “happy chemicals” – endorphins\, serotonin\, dopamine\, and more. So\, do you want to be happy? \n* Invest $20 per person\n* Book in with Kate through messenger or email greenstoneretreat@outlook.com \nLove you xxx \nMore info on upcoming events: https://greenstoneretreat.nz/workshops-retreats/

SUMMARY:Aviation100
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 100 years of aviation in Westland. \nThe Westland District was introduced to the miracle of flight with the arrival of the Blazing Arrow – a biplane that gave joyrides to locals during the Hokitika Exhibition in 1924. Some 10 years later\, famous aviator Captain Bert Mercer\, established New Zealand’s first licensed commercial airline service offering scheduled services between Hokitika\, the glaciers and Haast. \nJoin us as we celebrate these remarkable milestones that have had a significant impact on the connection of Westland to the world. The celebration will take place on Waitangi Weekend 2024\, with a series of events and exhibitions to be hosted in Hokitika. \nFor full schedule and more information\, click here.

SUMMARY:Rosina & The Weavers - Old Lodge Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Rosina & The Weavers are a tight-knit group from the southern reaches of Tāmaki Makaurau\, Auckland.  Following on from their self-titled EP (2022)\, they are embarking on an eight-show tour to celebrate the imminent release of their album: Hitching the Starlight Highway. \nTheir quiver of new material reveals a developing classic rock sound\, combined with forays into psychedelia and smatterings of catchy groove.  While Rosina’s sharp songwriting is predominantly influenced by folk traditions\, it is masterfully balanced by The Weavers who possess musical backgrounds as vast as they are varied. \nIt is with much excitement that this band looks forward to their performances for the people of ~ Te Wai Pounamu ~ The South Island! \nDoors open 7pm\, Show at 7.30pm. \nTickets $15. Door sales (cash only) or available at:\nhttps://www.undertheradar.co.nz/gig/87348/Rosina-&-The-Weavers—Album-Release-Tour\,-Show-3.utr
