See & Do

Hokitika is blessed with two lakes that offer different boating options.

Power Boating

If high octane is your thing, then head to Lake Kaniere. Its got a boat launch, picnic area and DoC camping ground. The Lake Kaniere Yacht and Power Boat Club Inc. hold an annual regatta. For more details, contact them at:

If you fancy yourself as more of a sailor, try out Lake Mahinapua. Its got a DoC campground on site and boat launch. The Lake Mahinapua Aquatic Club has clubrooms on site and offers sail training to members and racing each Sunday afternoon of the season (Feb-May). Boats are not necessarily available for visitor use but members are often more than happy to take anyone interested out on a boat if conditions allow. Don't be shy, go ahead and ask!
